Acetohexamide, Dymelor

Description

Acetohexamide is a sulfonylurea drug used to treat diabetes mellitus type 2, particularly in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet alone.

Acetohexamide lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin and helping the body use insulin efficiently.

Drug-Vitamin-Herb Interactions


Negative interactions:

Ipriflavone
Ipriflavone may increase the effects of antidiabetics which may cause hypoglycemia.

Potassium citrate
Potassium citrate may decrease levels of sulfonylurea antidiabetic drugs.

St JohnÕs Wort and Dong quai
St JohnÕs Wort and Dong quai may cause sensitivity to the sun, adding to side effect of antidiabetics.


Mixed interactions:

Chromium
Chromium improves blood sugar control, which may cause hypoglycemia with antidiabetic agents.

Ginseng
Ginseng lowers blood sugar levels, which may cause hypoglycemia with antidiabetic agents.

Magnesium
Diabetes may cause low levels of magnesium.

Magnesium
Magnesium increases the absorption of sulfonylurea antidiabetics.

Magnesium
Magnesium lowers blood sugar levels, which may cause hypoglycemia if used with antidiabetic agents.

Vanadium
Vanadium has an insulin-like action, which may cause hypoglycemia if used with antidiabetic agents.
