Duputryens contracture of the palmar fascia is due to fibrous proliferation resulting in flexion deformities and loss of function.
The cause of Duputryens contracture is unknown. Several mechanisms have been proprosed. It may be caused by ischemia to the fascia with oxygen free radical formation. It may be related to the release of angiogenic basic fibroblast growth factor, or to microhemorrhage and release of growth factors.
