Cardiomyopathy is defined as idiopathic, non-inflammatory lesions of heart muscle
Types of cardiomyopathy include:
hypertrophic - LV hypertrophy
dilated - dilated LV and/or RV, impaired systole
restrictive - stiff ventricle has difficulty filling, diastolic failure
Signs include: fatigue, dyspnea, palpitations, and precordial pain.
Symptoms include: Ventricular failure with gallop rhythm
Causes include: selenium deficiency, nutritional disorders, viral, anemia, alcohol, thyroidism, toxins, bacterial infections, age.
An EKG shows subtle ST changes with progression
CXR shows cardiomegally
