Liver and Gallbadder Flush and Cleansing Diet

This cleansing program should be followed for at least 5 days. This “flush” and cleansing diet will allow your liver and gallbladder to remove fats, cholesterol and toxins which have built up in them over the months or years. This program will increase the functioning ability of your liver and gallbladder removing wastes and toxins from your blood. Ideally, this program should be done at least once a year. Just as you would with the maintenance of your car, changing its oil and filter for optimal performance. The best time for this cleansing is in the spring time. Spring is associated with regeneration, growth and building. Although, if you have not done a “spring cleaning” in a while or this is your first, anytime is the right time! This program is simple, follow it step for step. Rarely do problems arise when undertaking this cleansing program. Nausea and mild abdominal pain may occur, so it is recommended that this program be done under a doctor’s supervision.

This cleansing program whould be followed for 5 days. Start your cleansing program with a breakfast cocktail each morning for at least 5 days. The ingredients are listed below.

Breakfast Cocktail

First thing in the morning, drink your breakfast cocktail.

Mix the following ingredients in a blender.

If you don’t have a blender, chop the garlic finely and stir or shake the mixture in a closed jar. In this case, it is best to chew the left over bits thoroughly before swallowing.

Note: if the cocktail is too sour for you to drink, you may add the juice of half of an orange.

Note: Some patients occasionally report slight to moderate nausea and rarely mild abdominal discomfort when taking the breakfast cocktail. These sensations will slowly disappear within an hour.

Herb tea

Drink two cups of a warm herb tea 30 minutes to an hour after drinking the cocktail.

Suggestions include any one or combination of the following: roasted dandelion root, ginger root, burdock root, red clover flower, yellow dock root, comfrey leaf or root, and peppermint. Enjoy these teas unsweetened.

Fruits for Brunch

For brunch, eat a fruit meal with or slightly after drinking the herb teas. Eat only one kind of fruit during this meal. It should be fresh and in season.

Suggested fruits include: pineapple, papaya, 1/2 melon, orange, grapefruit, nectarine, pears, grapes, mango and banana. Be sure to wash fruits (and vegetables) thoroughly and obtain organically grown food whenever possible. Avoid adding dressings or sweeteners.

Vegetables for lunch and dinner

For lunch and dinner eat only fresh vegetables and sprouts, cooked and/or raw. The best vegetables to be eaten include the following: Asparagus, beets, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, eggplant, kale, peppers: red, green, and yellow, onions, garlic, lettuce: romaine, manoa, butter, green and red leaf, spinach, mustard greens, beet greens, turnip greens, collard greens, bok choy, endive, parsley, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, dandilion greens, radish, and okra.

You may eat these in a salad, steam them or wok them in water. Eat no more than 5 kinds of vegetables at a time. For salad dressings, use an olive oil with lemon or an olive oil with vinegar and include your favorite herbs. Eat as much as you like.

Avoid these foods

All meats, seafoods, dairy products, refined and processed foods ( all foods that come in cans, boxes, or packages). Also avoid all sweeteners such as table sugar, brown sugar and honey. Avoid nuts and nut butters.

Beverages

Drink as much fluids as you desire. Drink only water, herb teas, freshly made fruit juice and your breakfast cocktail. Try to drink at least 6 glasses of fluid a day to help in hydration and flushing of toxins from your body.

Additional Note

This flushing of the liver and gallbladder stimulates and cleans these organs as no other method does. For the next few days, lumps of green matter may appear in the stools. They will be irregular in shape, gelatinous in texture and vary in size from grape seed to cherry pits. If there seems to be a large number of these in the stool, this flush should be repeated in two weeks.
